Abstract

This study investigates a self-narrative of a teacher who organizes an online study group for Japanese language teachers in the world with the ethnographic approach. The ultimate goal of this group is to allow the participants to become self-directed teachers, who continue to grow professionally (Okazaki & Okazaki, 1997). By looking at the data collected through participant observation, field notes, and questionnaire, the presenter will discuss 1) practical and theoretical reasons to organize the online study group for Japanese language teachers around the world, 2) activities he and his team organized, and 3) critical reflection of the activities.
